Tyler Fire Department awarded grant to make improvements to communications trailer

The City of Tyler Fire Department accepted a grant from the Office of the Texas Governor at the regularly scheduled City Council meeting on Wednesday, June 12. The funding, totaling $20,646, will be utilized for the Regional Command Trailer to improve interoperable communications.

The Texas Statewide Communication Interoperability Plan (SCIP) is a stakeholder driven, multi-jurisdictional and multi-disciplinary strategic plan to enhance interoperable and emergency communications across the state, regional and local levels. Tyler Fire’s communications trailer is designated as a regional asset and will be deployed when requested by the state.

“The upgrades being made will maintain and enhance interoperability and bridge communications between various agencies regionally and locally in times of disasters or other emergency events,” said Tyler Fire Chief David Coble. “These improvements benefit not only first responders, but also citizens. The better we can communicate with each other and other agencies, the better we can serve our community in any emergency.”
